Health

Vaping nicotine can lead to nicotine addiction, decreased athletic performance, and skin concerns.

Nicotine Addiction

Like cigarettes, most vapes contain nicotine, which is extremely addictive. The more a person vapes, the more their brain and body get used to having nicotine, and the harder it is to go without it. Even if a person hasn’t vaped for a few hours, they can still experience nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms include:

  • Feeling cranky, stressed or anxious
  • Depression
  • Strong urges to vape

Decreased Athletic Performance

Some athletes think vaping nicotine helps their game because it gives them a quick burst of energy. In reality, it can slow them down.

Vaping nicotine can cause:

  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure = increased risk for heart attack or stroke
  • Narrowed arteries = reduced oxygen supply to muscles
  • Delayed healing time for injuries = missed games and/or opportunities for scholarships

Skin Concerns

Vaping nicotine deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients, and can cause or worsen skin concerns.

Skin problems due to vaping can include:

  • Premature wrinkles and sagging skin
  • Dark spots and undereye circles
  • Acne and psoriasis
  • Delayed wound healing
